How to Connect to a Ventrilo Server

Many users have heard of this thing called Ventrilo, yet those people have never seen it, used it, or even known where to download it. Ventrilo is a VoIP software program that allows users to talk with microphones, or even chat in the chat function. This tutorial will show you the basics to setting up a Ventrilo, and connecting to a server to talk.

First Step: The first thing you need to do is install Ventrilo.
You can get Ventrilo at www.Ventrilo.com. Install the appropriate version (latest is 3.0.5) for your operating system.

Second Step: Setting Up Your Username.
This is the name you want it to be when you connect to the server. Most people use their in-game name so they can be known by their team. To do this you need to push the button. Here you will add your name. Click New, and type the name you want it to be. Make sure the name is able to be said my Microsoft Sam, so the users in the Ventrilo know when you are connecting. An example username would be: Brett, or Rorcan. Once you have it typed in, you have the choice of setting a Phonetic. A phonetic is played when a user connects to the server so they know who it is. If you leave this box blank, your name you chose will be said, instead of anything else. An example changed phonetic would be: MaximumVoice is Awesome. The other 2 boxes are not needed at all, and you can leave them blank.

Third Step: Lets Connect to a Server!
This is the more tough part of setting up Ventrilo. Again click the button next to the Server box. Here you will click New. In the Name box put the name you want the server to be known by for easy server switching. After you have done that, you need to enter the server IP and Port. You get these from the owner of the Ventrilo. The password is an optional field due to the fact all servers do not have passwords. Once you have filled out the information, click OK. From here you just have to click the connect button on the main screen of Ventrilo.
